The Epsom Derby is one of the highlights of the flat racing season and one of the best attended races of the year. Every year in June tens of thousands of racing fans make their way to Epsom to enjoy the excellent weather, style and pageantry of England’s most beloved Classic.

Epsom Derby Travel by Car

Epsom Downs racecourse is located approximately 2 miles south of the town of Epsom. You can travel to the Epsom Downs racecourse from Epsom town on the B290 Tadsworth road. Epsom Derby travellers coming in to the Derby Festival from other parts of England can access Epsom Downs Racecourse via the M25 and the Junction 9 turnoff.

During the racing season Epsom Downs racecourse is clearly signposted by the AA along all major routes. It is recommended that Epsom Derby travellers arriving by road book parking from the racecourse in advance as it is not unusual for parking to be sold out on race days.

Epsom Derby Travel by Train

The town of Epsom is easily accessed via London Waterloo and London Victoria Stations. Trains stop at Tattenham Corner Station where busses and taxis are available for transport to the Epsom Downs racecourse. Alternatively Epsom Derby travellers arriving by train can walk the short ½ mile distance to the course.

If you are planning to travel in to Epsom by tube you will needs to make use of the Morden Station located approximately 6 miles from the racecourse. Taxis and busses run from Morden Tube Station into Epsom at regular intervals. The journey from London to Epsom by rail takes approximately 36 minutes.

Epsom Derby Travel by Plane

If you’re travelling in to the Epsom Derby from another country, you will need to make use of either London Heathrow or London Gatwick airports.

London Heathrow is London’s biggest airport and is accessed by most national carriers. From London Heathrow you can take a taxi to Epsom or alternatively take a SouthWest train to London Waterloo, which offers regular trains to Tattenham Corner Station.

Alternatively Epsom Derby travellers making use of discount airlines or smaller carriers can access London via London Gatwick Airport. From London Gatwick you can take the Southern Rail to Clapham Junction which offers access to Epsom Downs racecourse via London Waterloo.
